A trade agreement (also known as a trade pact) is a large-scale tax, customs and trade agreement, which often includes investment guarantees. It exists when two or more countries agree on conditions that help them trade with each other. The most frequent trade agreements are preferential and free trade regimes to reduce (or remove) tariffs, quotas and other trade restrictions imposed on intermediaries.  For a debate on the trade disaster of the 1930s during the Great Depression, which had no trade agreements, see Irwin (2011, 2012). Free trade agreements are treaties that regulate the tariffs, taxes and tariffs that countries collect for their imports and exports. The most well-known regional trade agreement in the United States is the North American Free Trade Agreement. However, some concerns have been expressed by the WTO. According to Pascal Lamy, Director-General of the WTO, the dissemination of regional trade agreements (RTA) is „… is the concern of inconsistency, confusion, exponentially increasing costs for businesses, unpredictability and even injustice in trade relations.  The WTO is how typical trade agreements (called preferential or regional agreements by the WTO) are to some extent useful, but it is much more advantageous to focus on global agreements under the WTO, such as the ongoing Doha Round negotiations. As soon as the agreements go beyond the regional level, they need help. The World Trade Organization intervenes at this stage.
This international body contributes to the negotiation and implementation of global trade agreements. Free trade agreements should stimulate trade between two or more countries. Strengthening international trade has the following six main advantages: a trade agreement signed between more than two parties (usually neighbouring or in the same region) is considered multilateral. They face the main obstacles – to content negotiation and implementation. The more countries involved, the more difficult it is to achieve mutual satisfaction. Once this type of trade agreement is governed, it will become a very powerful agreement. The larger the GDP of the signatories, the greater the impact on other global trade relations. The largest multilateral trade agreement is the North American Free Trade Agreement between the United States, Canada and Mexico.  These results underline the importance of quality.
A naïve approach that only examines the impact of trade agreements on prices (uncorrected on quality) could wrongly conclude that trade agreements do not affect consumers. At least for trade agreements implemented by the EU, the overall effect translates into quality changes. Once we have adjusted prices to quality, we find that trade agreements have reduced quality-adjusted prices by almost 7%. In the first two decades of the agreement, regional trade increased from about $290 billion in 1993 to more than $1 trillion in 2016. Critics are divided on the net impact on the U.S. economy, but some estimates put the net loss of domestic jobs at $15,000 a year as a result of the agreement. Full integration of Member States is the last level of trade agreements. But even the most important estimates suggest that international trade has caused only a fraction of the economic disruption in the United States, including one that could likely be suffered by Key Trump voters.
